Is it just me or is this year flying by? Not sure how we’re six months into 2019, but I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on how this year has been treating me so far.
Let me start by telling you that 2019 hasn’t been the greatest. When the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2019, I vowed that 2019 was going to be my year! I had set goals and milestones for myself to achieve but I hit a speed bump that hindered my progress. Here’s what happened (I’m about to get real with y’all):
Not sure if you know but ‘blogging’ or being an ‘influencer’ has always been my side hustle. This isn’t anything that I wanted to do full-time because I had a steady job that I actually enjoyed doing.
Early this year I started a new job, at a new company and was really excited. The company seemed great, my colleagues were amazing and was finally getting the salary I’ve been working so hard towards. Anyways, it clearly didn’t work out as they let me go during my probation period. I was devastated! I’ve been working since I was 16 and it’s scary that I won’t be receiving a steady-decent pay check. I was banking on this new income to pay off certain debts quicker and I have upcoming events the require a financial commitment. But, of course, something had to happen to mess up my plans. C’est la vie – am I right?
Whenever things don’t go my way, I usually get into a dark headspace where I start doubting my capabilities and question what I’m doing with my life. I know what you’re going to say: “Don’t let yourself get down, Rachael. It’s only a speed bump. You’ll get back on your two feet again”. Well I’m human and I am going to let myself get the best of myself but once that dark cloud passes, I can finally put things into perspective and see my life in a more positive light.
After a week of wallowing, I decided to turn this negative experience into an opportunity to do things that I really couldn’t do before and make the most out of my time, such as:
- My sister is getting married in two months and I’ve been busy planning two wedding showers (yes, two!) and the bachelorette in Vegas. So many events, so little time – aka the story of my life
- I started going to the gym daily (need that Vegas bod)
- Been reconnecting with a lot of my friends (brunch is now an everyday thing)
- Stepping up my instagram and blog game (if you haven’t noticed *insert winky smiley face*)
Although 2019 didn’t start off in the most ideal way, I truly believe the next six months are going to be amazing. I think since that ‘unfortunate event’, I’ve had more of a hustle mentality than ever. I’m a firm believer in ‘everything happens for a reason’ and maybe this is a sign to pursue blogging full-time? Definitely something for me to think about and really pursue! As of today, I’m not entirely sure where this path may lead me but, hey, it’s worth a shot.
I cam across this quote and it perfectly sums up my thoughts:
“If you never try, you‘ll never know. You are what you manifest.” – Germany Kent
I have new goals and milestones for the next six months and I guess you’re going to have to wait and see where I end up.
Hope your year is going the way you’ve planned. If not, don’t fret you still got another half of the year to kill it!
